This is a fairly new phenomenon. I needed some new jeans as my trusty 514s had finally died. I had'em for about 7-8 years and when they finally split at the knee I didn't mind much but it totally chanegd the fit of the jeans. They were thread-bare and not comfortable anymore so now they sit in a drawer until I can patch'em up and make'em my stereotypical hippie jeans. ANYWAYS, so I went to get another pair of 514s (501s feel like a vice gripping my crotch all day, and not in a good way!) and, like you said, it was total clown pants. I ended up with some "normal cut" or whatever and a pair of 501s which now feel great...really comfortable.

As for relicing...nah. It's a poser's dream. that's all. Although I do like the fact that if yo usell a guitar with real, natural wear and tear (buckle -rash, etc.) it is simply beat up whereas if you sell the SAME guitar but you beat it up with sandpaper then it is a relic and totally ok.......

I wear Wranglers in rigid blue denim or black (13MWZ original fit, you can get them for like $22 for the ridgid blue ones and last for quite a while) they sit at the waist or just slightly above the waist and give me plenty of room in the crotch area. I too can't find a good pair of Levi's that fit right anymore. I used to wear the 505's, but now their too big and baggy and expensive. I also wear Dickies for my backups.

Can't find a good pair of boots anymore. I need pair of brown bull hide or mule hide boots with an R toe, with either a Vibram min lug sole or a Chevron sole, leather lined 14 inch shaft with a 1 and 3/4 inch heel with a spur rest. Was wearing these... I've had these for years, and actually cleaned them up, they don't actully look this bad anymore. But some of the leather is starting to wear through. I've had the heel and soles replaced more then a few times.

But now im wearing these, to tell you the truth I really don't like'em. Image

I just wear either Hanes black or white T shirts. Also have a bunch of Ely Cattleman shirts. You can get them for $12 if you look hard enough.

I wear a Carhartt vest sometimes.

I wear a blue Dickies Eisenhower jacket if it's -20 below.

I only wear Magellan socks. Their thick and last forever.

I can't find underwear to fit me right anymore. I can't stand that paper thin crap. Everything is either too small or too big. Can't wear boxers, everything flops around and I wind up with a... You know what I mean. So I wear underwear from 10 years ago.

I carry my great grandfathers old Camillus pocket knife.

Damn im anal about clothes.

Many years ago I read a story that when Keef Richards bought a new guitar he hated the feel & look of it so he had his tech go over it with a few power tools to make it look run in.
I'd never heard of "relic'd" guitars until then, ,but it sure seems to have caught on.

Only thing I can think of to say for Chupy's boots is "hot dang!"

Chupy, glad to see you're not wearing "San Francisco" style or line dancing boots! :poke: But if you can't find a new pair of cowboy boots in Oklahoma, something's wrong. Maybe you need to drive down to Texas?

I got my Olathe 6720's from a place in San Antonio, called South Texas Prime. I've got a lot of boots, but these are my favorites. ALL leather, except for the nails in the heels and a steel shank. None of this plastic Chinese crap. (Actually, there is a neoprene mid-sole sandwiched between the leather outter sole and insole, which is to keep your feet dry if you're standing on wet ground.) 18" shafts, just below the knee, make them great for riding through the brush, and add a little extra security in rattlesnake country. (Man, I hate snakes!) Not your typical city-folk stuff, I realise - but then neither am I, and less by the day.

I had a pair of Lucchese's made about 11-12 years ago...they made a big deal about how they actually use lemon wood pegs instead of nails (or something like that)!

These are my go-to boots now:

And I still mostly wear 501's...but I have some Carhart double fronts for work (and Red Wing 2233's).

As for guitars, when I do shine them up I use a Gibson brand "vintage restoration kit" came with fretboard oil, cream guitar polish, and metal cleaner. I also have some of the Dunlop spray stuff, Formula 65. And the Dunlop black microfiber polish cloth is bad ass too.

Pegged arches are the way the old cowboy boots used to be made, I think to help keep that steel shank in place. I associate that with your better boots, which often have double rows of pegs in brass and wood. You see a lot of the Mexican boots still made that way.

They just carry the stock Olathe’s here. No one will do a custom order here for me. I've been considering drivin down to that Shipler guy down in San Antonio. Wanna make sure he gets my feet measured right before I do a special order. I’ve emailed him a few times. I think he will do it.

I've been thinking about these but with either a 14 or a 15 inch shaft but with a brown shaft instead of the orange.

He definitely will. Errol Shipler is a great guy to deal with, and Olathe will make them any way you want. That's how I got a pair of custom mule hide boots from Olathe, through Errol. Any of the options you listed above are very doable. It'll probably end up costing you about $100 extra for a custom boot, bringing it to about $350.

When it comes to working cowboy boots, Olathe is the real deal and the first choice of many of the pro-rodeo cowboys out there. And Olathe stands by their work. Get 'em fit right, and I doubt you'd regret ever it. I believe Olathe offers reconditioning / re-building of their old boots, as well, although I've had Errol do some reapir work for me - as you know, he's not only a boot dealer, but a repairman as well. "I do things with boots that would scare most shoe repair men."

That rattler is definitely big enough to ruin your day...although the baby ones pack a mean punch too. Did you make a guitar strap out of the skin?

Heck, I'll play along too. On the left are my absolutely destroyed Tony Llama Python boots. I wore those, obviously every day for years. They even soaked up some graveyard mud during a stay in New Orleans right after Katrina. On the right are my current daily boots, some Justins I picked up at the flea market. I dunno what they're made out of, but they're not too terribly uncomfortable and they look cool.

Image

Here are my other choices for footware. Of course the standard Chuck Taylors, then we have some HH steel-toed harness engineer boots which I normally wore when I was bouncing (you did not want to get kicked or stomped by me in those!), and then some Stacy Adams two-tones that people started a rumor about me stealing off of some old, homeless, black guy.

Image

You know we're almost women for talking about shoes on the internet. If they weren't all made out of some solid dead animals we'd definitely be gunning for the gay award.

Na, the guy took it, cooked it and ate it. He was some neighbor of my great grandmother up in Bristow.

Your right Frank, it is getting a bit fruty.

Here's my running shoes (ASICS). I get in a good 40-60 miles a week with these. Britishampfan recommended me these a while back. No more shin splints and heel pain!!

My other boots, the eyelets tear up my ankles though.

My weight lifting shoes. The Chucks are good if I haven't gotten to big. If I have, I can't even get my feet into them. That' were the Reboks and my house shoes come in.

I've been thinkin about getting a pair Tony Lamas 4013's like these... Until I can get down to San Antonio to get fitted for a custom pair of Olathes.

I've seen them for a better price though...

Here's some Mexican boots. Not my style though.

I'd get a pair of Hondo's though.
